This digest-sized journal is published by the Association of College & Research Libraries (ACRL) in 11 issues annually (July and August are combined).
Some departments that are found in each issue include:
- News from the Field – one to two paragraphs highlighting different sources that have recently become available.
- Washington Hotline – a one-page summary of current pending federal legislation that affects libraries or current activities in the Library of Congress.
- Internet Reviews – recent reviews from 2017 highlighted the websites of the Massachusetts Historical Society (http://www.masshist.org/), OneAmerica (https://www.weareoneamerica.org) and GreenFacts (https://www.greenfacts.org/en/index.htm).
- Fast Facts – The last page of each issue has four facts affecting libraries that are compiled by one of the ACRL staff members.
Most original articles found in this journal are four pages long. Some topics covered in 2017 concerned successful steps in establishing a writer’s retreat, comparing different formats of interactive tutorials, academic libraries who serve refugees, and a teaching collaboration between a county public library and a state university.
College & Research Libraries News is available in the Education Source database from 1998 to the present, and as print holdings for the past two years in the periodical section in the southeast corner of the Bellevue University Library.
