The Advancing Women in Leadership journal is an electronically published peer-reviewed quantitative and qualitative research, literature critiques, and position papers related to women’s leadership issues or gender equity in national and international contexts. This journal, published annually, provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.
This journal is sponsored by the Education Leadership Research Center (ELRC). The ELRC is a center within Texas A&M University’s Department of Educational Administration and Human Resource Development, College of Education and Human Development. The ELRC works to drive effective education leadership through research on leadership practices and policies within American schools. All articles submitted to Advancing Women in Leadership are reviewed by the journal’s editorial board before being published. The journal’s Senior Editor is Dr. Beverly J. Irby, Regents Professor in Texas A&M’s College of Education and Human Development.
Each issue contains articles discussing a variety of topics:
- Volume 40 (2021) included an article on women in sports leadership.
- Volume 39 (2019) featured an article about how women leaders reflect on purpose and career.
- Volume 38 (2018) presented an article focusing on the legacy of black female educators.
- Volume 37 (2017) highlighted an article examining the role of women in international public leadership.
Though the COVID-19 pandemic forced the journal to pause publication during 2020, Advancing Women in Leadership published on schedule in 2021. The journal successfully issued more than double the number of articles published in 2019, putting them back on track to publish a regular volume in 2022.
It is a great resource for all who are interested in current research concerning women’s leadership and gender equity in professional situations. The digital version of the journal can be found in the A-Z Journal List of the Bellevue University Library, with coverage available from 2005-present. New insights are discovered all the time, and Advancing Women in Leadership is an authoritative place to begin research on the topic.
