With the rise in outdoor temperatures, one is sure to enjoy a glass of lemonade on National Lemonade Day, which is celebrated on the first Sunday in May. Not only is National Lemonade Day a day to celebrate a time to enjoy a refreshing glass of lemonade, but more importantly, it is a day to give youth an opportunity to experience the taste of success.
Through LemonadeDay.org millions of children around the nation learn what it takes to run a small business (lemonade stand) in a fun and constructive way. Budding entrepreneurs attend workshops, check their stock, and scout out their locations. All of the preparations lead up to kids of various ages setting up shop on Lemonade Day to sell the freshest, coolest lemonade to their customers.
According to lemonadeday.org, the Lemonade Day program has taught youth life-long skills such as problem solving, goal setting, and philanthropy. Youth also are equipped to recognize opportunity, take initiative and become innovative.
National Lemonade Day was founded in 2007 by Michael Holthouse in his hometown of Houston, Texas. Today he and LemonadeDay.org are partnered with Google to continue to bring the entrepreneurial spirit to the youth of America.
